rules.
don't be a dick.
no drama. hmds aren't compulsory because this is a chill as fuck place, but please be aware we are all building something together and that may occasionally require constructive criticism, correction, and compromise. of course, if you are being harassed or bullied within the context of this game
amber is willing to step in to mediate, so feel free to reply to this post to bring it to her attention. but first ask yourself "does it affect me in the offline world in any way?" and "have I attempted to resolve this through communication first?"
there's no activity check! backtagging is heavily encouraged. but please please please don't character squat. if the game is active and you've practically forgotten about it, do your fellow players the courtesy of dropping. we also only allow one olympian each and three characters total for this reason. (if the game is tiny this may later be expanded, but in the early stages a character limit helps players focus their time and enables a greater variety of choice for interested parties.)
where do we play? anywhere!
theogony will host regular meme-style posts that forward the plot. characters are welcome to set up an IC inbox for miscellaneous technological communications. logs should be hosted in individual journals. you can follow all the comms and journals using the reading list. you're welcome to also take the characters to places like bakerstreet, individual museboxes, or games that allow ocs!
greek myth only. you can be any of these bros with the exception of the primordial deities, which are considered places and not personifications. creatures may have a human and non-human form. if you want to play someone not listed on wiki who is part of the mythos, just ask. despite what humans believe, there are no gods from pantheons other than greek in this world. fictional characters or existing people are not playable at this time. you may invent a non-mythical original character to serve as followers/priests/npcs, but they have to start out a perfectly ordinary 100% human type. the canon has plenty of demigods and nature nymphs running around already that you can adopt.
they may be gods, but please don't godmode. your character is not the coolest or the most powerful, they won't win every fight or argument, they don't have the most money or connections. part of the joy of greek mythology is its focus on the fatal flaw. gods are trapped by their destinies, and humans fall prey to their hubris. these are ancient, powerful figures but time and modernity can strip away their powers and their memories. aim to create realistic, imperfect people.
no canon aus. as cool as the idea is, try and keep the pbs of your original characters and the characters the actor has played as separate identities. all characters are original characters based on mythology. try not to borrow too heavily from pop fiction, whether that be playing an OC who is an exact clone of your favourite tv show lead or cribbing plot points from percy jackson or wherever. it is considered legitimate grounds for constructive criticism from fellow players and a warning from the mod if your character is not your own.
use appropriate pbs. everything is live action. they should be celebrities (or at least close enough) — no cosplayers or ordinary people, please. the pb chosen should be similar to at least some of whatever descriptions are out there of the mythological figure. but the more interesting, little-known or underused, the better. the mod recommends using the
pb_updates tags to search by gender/age/hair colour to settle on a celebrity, or browsing the the icon comms linked in
pb_stalker. using the
wikicon memories and
find_icons tags can help find more icons of a specific celebrity.
communication is encouraged. poke people for tags and cr, enable them to app your god's pet human, bring your problems to them, check in before doing major stuff like killing or revealing great big secrets, work constructively to build a universe together. anyone who wants to help contribute to the greater plot is welcome to bring their ideas to the mod. there is plenty of room for everyone and you are never late to anything!
